History of High Plains Sports Medicine

High Plains Sports Medicine (HPSM) was established in 1991, by Hays Orthopaedic Clinic, to better serve the sports medicine needs of western Kansas athletes. An initially small program quickly grew into a premier program with fourteen participating high schools.

HPSM merged with the Outpatient Rehabilitation Services of Hays Medical Center in June of 2000. High Plains Sports Medicine operates as a department of The Center of Health Improvement, concentrating on sports medicine and athletic training programs.

High Plains Sports Medicine also works directly with Fort Hays State University's Accredited Athletic Training Program Education Program allowing students to gain experience in the clinical and high school settings.
