FREE Park Crawl Workout Offered by The Center For Health Improvement

HAYS, Kan. (Sept 30, 2015) – The Center for Health Improvement is offering a FREE Park Crawl Workout for exercise enthusiasts on Saturday, October 17 from 8:15 am – 11:00 am. Participants will travel to four parks in the Hays area with different exercises featured at each location.

The day starts at the Center for Health Improvement, 2500 Canterbury with a warm up at 8:15 am. The first stop is the Pratt Optimist Park for a Body Weight Strength and Conditioning workout at 8:30 am. Next on the route is Tabata Training which will begin at the entrance to Lark’s Park at 9:00 am. From there it’s on to Games for Days at Frontier Park at 9:30 am. PiYo will be held at Massey Park at 10:00 am. At 10:30 the group will be back at The Center for Health Improvement for Breakfast/Yoga Cool Down.

Transportation from park to park will be provided by Access Public Transportation. If you can’t make the whole event you are encouraged to join the group at any one of the park locations. Bring your family and friends for a morning of fun at the FREE Park Crawl Workout.

HaysMed Emergency Room Nurse Receives Certification

Frederking, LoriHAYS, Kan. (September 29, 2015) –Lori Frederking RN, recently passed the Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) examination administered by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing.

The CEN credential represents a commitment of the individual nurse, as well as the emergency department that supports CEN credentialing, to quality state-of-the-art emergency care. Emergency nursing incorporates a wide spectrum of patient care that requires highly specialized skills and extensive knowledge, as well as the unique ability to care for all ages of patients that have illnesses or injuries ranging from the very minor to extremely critical. The CEN examination evaluates the nurse’s knowledge in the areas of clinical pathophysiology, patient care management, and professional issues, environment, toxicology, shock, trauma, and medical emergency care.

Lori is a member of the hospital’s emergency services team that is increasingly recognized for its professional growth and clinical excellence. She has been an Associate of Haysmed since February 2010

HaysMed Psychiatric Associates Clinic Moves Offices

Hays, Kansas (Sept 9, 2015) – HaysMed Psychiatric Associates Clinic has recently moved from their offices at the Hadley Center to the campus of HaysMed. The new location is Suite 314 in the HaysMed Miller Medical Pavilion. Dr. Lynn Davidson-Stroh is now seeing patients at the new location.

Patients are asked to use Parking Lot and Entrance B at the southwest corner of the hospital.

Forensic Symposium Scheduled for October 7

HAYS, Kan. (September 9, 2015) – HaysMed Education and The University of Kansas Medical Center Continuing Education and Professional Development and the Area Health Education Center – West, is sponsoring a Forensic Symposium 2015 on Wednesday, October 7 at the HaysMed, Hadley Conference Rooms, 2220 Canterbury, Hays, Kansas. Registration begins at 7:30 am and the program runs from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

Bethanie Popejoy, Special Agent KBI Child Victims Unit; Karen Wilson, RN, SANE-A, Wesley Medical Center University; and Jennifer Johnson, RN, BSN, MSN, APRN, AFN-BC, CFN SANE-A, SANE-P, FACT Program Coordinator, Shawnee Mission.

Topics to be addressed include: drug endangered children; lethality risk in interpersonal violence, gunshot sounds; and testifying as an expert in intimate partner and sexual assault cases.

Secure Digital Forensic Imaging (SDFI) will remotely demonstrate the Standard and Contrast Camera Systems. The standard camera allows for detailed forensic photodocumentation with high resolution, high definition, clear images. The new contrast which allows you to take high resolution contrast images and video of what you see while in dim or dark environments with UV light

This program is designed for Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, APRNs, respiratory therapists, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, physicians, physician assistants, law enforcement, teachers, advocates, attorneys and other interested healthcare professionals. SEVEN (7.0) hours of continuing education credit are available for CNE, CME social workers, EMS, KLETC and Respiratory Therapy credit. Approval is pending for ASRT Category A credit and paperwork will be provided to submit to KOTA and KPTA for credit. FIVE (5) Law Enforcement Continuing Education Hours will be provided through KLETC.

Fee for the symposium is $70 for non HaysMed associates and $35 Critical Access Hospital employees. There is no charge for HaysMed, Pawnee Valley Community Hospital and St. Rose Health Center employees.

HaysMed Welcomes New Physician

Hays, KS, September 8, 2015 – Hays Medical Center is pleased to welcome Dr. Ernesto Lopez-Corona to the medical staff.

Lopez-Corona, who specializes in urology, completed medical school and an internship at the Autonomous University of Baja California. He also completed a urology residency at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Dr. Lopez-Coronas joins Drs. Faris Azzouni, Kevin McDonald and Darrell Werth at HaysMed’s Western Kansas Urological Associates where he is accepting new patients
