“The hospital has procedures outlined for situations such as this,” said Bryce Young, chief operating officer at HaysMed. “Once the outage occurred we successfully implemented backup measures within minutes.  At no time was patient safety compromised.”

“When these situations happen, our patients are the main concern,” added Young.   “Our staff is well trained and came together seamlessly to carry out the downtime procedures.”

Acute Care

I had a very good experience from the time I came into the emergency room till the time I got released. The ladies and staff took very good care of me during my stay. Thank you HaysMed.

Staff was extremely caring and very accommodating and professional. Quiet, comfortable and state of the art hospital. So blessed to have this facility in our community.

I am very satisfied with the care I got while in the hospital. The staff was very caring and helpful. Good Job. Thanks.

Amazing care was given by ER staff. Dr. Gray and Lindsey treated me wonderfully. I appreciate everything so much.

The care I received at HaysMed was superb. The entire staff treated us in a professional and kindly manner. I would recommend your medical center to anyone that needs care. Keep up the good work.

All help was very good and considerate of the patient.

The service was great. I want to thank all the doctors and nurses for taking their time to take good care while I was there.

The nurses are good as gold. Polite and caring.

Women’s Center – OB

Susan from labor and delivery is an amazing nurse! We could not have made it through the day without her!

The nurses I had – Molly, Lisa, Emily – are the best so far. The nurses my son had – Doris and Lisa – are also good.

Everybody was very nice. Nurses were very friendly in recovery. Thank you all. Dr. was also very nice. Thanks to the nurses for being patient with me. Abby was a great nurse – thanks for all your help.

Everything has been great. Extra helpful. Calm and soothing during delivery and post-delivery.

All of my nurses have been amazing. Everyone has been so helpful and caring. I couldn’t ask for better service. I had two over the top amazing nurses. Patti and Lisa!

Dr. Jennifer Sloan was an exceptional doctor during delivery and after care. Molly, our overnight nurse, was very good! She provided excellent care and was very good at explaining what she was doing and why for the baby. We really appreciated her care.

I would like to thank all of the nurses for the exceptional care that I got on Thursday and Friday night. Karissa Nelson, Patti Lane, Sheylynn Eickhoff, Molly Willhoft. Especially Dr. Jenna Sloan for all of the amazing care that she gave me and my baby. I was very impressed with the care of everyone that took care of me. And Dr. Claude, Dr. Powell and Dr. Hesston for the care of my daughter with her stay in the NICU.

Dana the RN was fantastic! Very pleasant, kind, caring and all around amazing. She was very encouraging and attentive.

My doctor and nurses were great. Dr. Sloan and Nurse Susan were wonderful. Kept us smiling and were there when we needed her. All other staff were very nice and made us feel very welcome.

My delivery nurse was great and very supportive. My choice to not get an epidural was respected and not questioned. Dr. Sloan was very calm and helpful. Everyone in with delivery was good with letting my baby and I experience skin to skin and bonding immediately after delivery. Dr. Powell was great with my baby. The post-partum nurses I had were very good with us. The food was good too.

Great care and caring. No concerns.

Sleep Center

Jeremy and Russell were fantastic! Very patient and informative. Made me feel at ease. They were fast when needed, didn’t make me feel bad or ashamed. Very real and funny guys. Thank you guys.

Jeremy and Russell told me just what they were going to do and explained thoroughly what they wanted me to do. I did follow their instructions and they in turn did exactly what they were to do.

Staff was friendly and helpful.

Thank you for the great care Russell and Jeremy. It was a fantastic experience. I appreciate the professionalism they showed.

Staff was pleasant. Overall experience good.

Very well satisfied.

Jeremy and Russell were great and very kind. This was my first sleep study and they made me feel at ease. Thank you guys!

The guys did a great job! They work well together.

Super, super staff. These gentlemen were so very kind. They explained what they were doing at all times and that made me comfortable. Nice job!

Jeremy was my tech last night and he did an awesome job! Was very personable, quick to get all those wires hooked up and very knowledgeable to be able to explain things to me. Didn’t think I’d be able to use the mask there and Jeremy was very reassuring and positive.

Jeremy and Russell made the visit worry free and they’re easy going. Helped me relax and be much more comfortable. I had Jeremy for a previous test also and they just don’t come any better.

Jeremey handled most of my care – please reward him for the exceptional care given to me. His associate came in a time or two and was very caring also.

Russell and Jeremy were good.

Staff was great.

Jeremy and Russell were very professional and efficient in doing their jobs while I was at the Sleep Center. They were both very polite and helpful during the sleep study.

Mammography

Great explanation. Very helpful and reassuring. Great personality-smile-made me feel at ease. Thanks.

Always a good experience at the Breast Care Center even for uncomfortable procedures. Lauren was very respectful and courteous. Michelle and Landry were warm and inviting. I wouldn’t feel comfortable going anywhere else.

Radiation Oncology

The staff is the best, from the front office to all the ladies in the treatment area. If every office had the people this office does more people would go the the doctor. These ladies made all the difference to me all through the treatment. They all need a raise; they are the best staff I have ever had at any place that I have been to. Dr. Harrison is friendly and knows what he is talking about and not afraid to listen to you and tell you what is what.

The radiation oncology department at HaysMed is wonderful. Dr. Harrison is so calming and makes sure you understand what radiation is and how they are going to help you go through the program. Dr. Harrison’s nurse Susie is also calming and always willing to answer questions and help you. The three radiation technicians, Haley, Andrea and Melissa are very kind, friendly and efficient. Everything is always ready for you so you spend as little time as possible in treatment. They are also very helpful . Andreas even helped me to my car on an icy day. Because of the departments expertise, radiation was not as bad as I had anticipated.

Susie, Andrea, Melissa, Haley, Dr. Harrison and Dr. Rodriguez are such an amazing team. They have made my cancer diagnosis much more bearable and pleasant. They care!!!

I am very pleased with the treatment that I am getting from HaysMed during my time with breast cancer. They doctors, nurses, receptionists, aides and others were extremely competent, helpful and caring. All combined for wonderful care. I am grateful the cancer was found early and treated quickly although I’m confident I would have received the same care had it been more advanced. Thank you HaysMed!

The entire staff at Dreiling Schmidt Cancer Institute Radiation Oncology have made this unfortunate experience something to be dealt with much easier. The smiles help to start my day off on the best foot, even though the treatment for my cancer is a scary situation. Thank you all.

Inpatient PT/OT/Speech

Everyone in PT/OT was excellent. Misty was very personable and easy to talk to as well as being knowledgeable. Aaron was very knowledgeable and very helpful. Sheilen was very professional and knowledgeable. All three made it easier and more enjoyable. Thank you for your excellent care.

Everyone was very nice to me. Sometimes I felt like I was bugging them but they never minded. Just did everything for me. Amber was my favorite. She took the time to set and talk to me when I was crying. Jodie made sure I knew what I was doing. Kinsey was very easy to talk to. Sarah was so nice. Tina was very good. She knew her stuff! Alyssa cared about my blood pressure!

I appreciate and thank you for your kind, gracious, compassionate care while I was a patient here. I loved Elisha – so sweet, kind, and considerate. Food was excellent- thanks. We are so blessed to have HaysMed in our state. I pray God’s blessing upon it always.

Joyce was very cheerful and direct. I really appreciate her help.

The physical therapy department was amazing. They pushed me to do my best each time and encouraged me to push a little more. They did great. Joyce is a fantastic motivator!!

I really did enjoy all my care givers. They were very patient with me and I enjoyed all of them so much.

ICU

Good service. Tina is an excellent nurse, we are very grateful to her for all her job with us. And the whole team of nurses and doctors. They all do a very good job. Thanks for all.

As always HaysMed has done a great job for us.

Outpatient PT/OT/Speech

Teresa Heinmann is terrific. She is very caring and very knowledgeable. Always willing to give support and encouragement. Kelly and Bob are good with ASTYM. Can you clone Tessa or have more trained or certified in her expertise?

The therapists (Bob and Lindsey) have given first class results. In the beginning I didn’t expect much but am greatly surprised. Kudos to both and many thanks.

I have just completed an extended rehab. My primary associate was Lindsey Dreiling. I could not have had a more caring or professional person to work me to achieve my goal. We worked together very well and over time I improved almost more than could have expected. She is also very pleasant and personable. I would adopt her if I could. I would also commend Kelly who filled in ably when Lindsey was not available. The front desk ladies were also very pleasant and helpful.

My experience here has been outstanding. I have met some of my goals in 6 weeks. The ladies have taught me many skills that I will continue to use on my own. Whitney and Joyce have been great with me. I really appreciate all of your help!

Emergency Department

Dr. Miller, Dr. Tsereteli, Lori in ER and Traci in PACU were all amazing to this frantic mother of a 12 year old appendicitis. Christina and Carlie in Peds and Jason in RT were wonderful.

Good service, nice doctors, treated with respect.

Nuclear Imaging

Phyllis was great helping me.

Ambulatory Care Center

Everything went well. Good Job.

HaysMed Adds Electrophysiologists – Electricians for your Heart

By Gayla Wichman - DeBakey Heart Institute News,HaysMed News

Hays, Kansas – HaysMed, part of The University of Kansas Health System, has expanded services to their cardiac program recently. Drs. Rhea Pimentel and Madhu Reddy have been seeing patients for several months at the Debakey Heart Institute.  Both physicians are electrophysiologists, cardiologists who specialize in the electrical functions of the heart.

“Our affiliation with The University of Kansas Health System has made it possible to bring these much needed services available locally,” said Bryce Young, Chief Operating Officer at HaysMed. “We were able to make arrangements for these physicians to come to Hays on a regular basis to see patients in our heart clinic.  The addition of the two electrophysiologists will help strengthen the cardiac services available at HaysMed.”

Dr. Pimentel graduated completed medical school at Northwestern University. She did here residency at the University Hospital of Cleveland at Case Western Reserve University and a fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine.

Dr. Reddy completed medical school at the Armed Forces medical College and did a residency and fellowship at Creighton University and a fellowship at The University of Kansas Medical Center.

While cardiologists typically evaluate and treat patients with heart-related symptoms, including a fast or slow heartbeat, chest pain, dizziness and other symptoms, electrophysiologists deal with the diagnosis and management of irregular heart rhythm. In most cases, when a cardiologist suspects a patient has an arrhythmia, they refer that patient to an electrophysiologist for further care.

Arrhythmia is a condition in which the heart beats with an irregular or abnormal rhythm, whether that is too fast, too slow or erratically. When the heart is unable to beat properly, it can affect blood flow, which can cause damage to or even shut down the brain, lungs and other organs. Some arrhythmias are harmless, but others can be life-threatening.

One of the most common arrhythmias that electrophysiologists treat is atrial fibrillation, also known as AFib. AFib occurs when the heart’s upper chambers—the atria—contract irregularly. AFib is the most common type of heart arrhythmia in the U.S., and it is a leading cause of blood clots that can result in a deadly stroke.

The number of people with arrhythmias is increasing and as the population ages, that number will continue to go up.

“We are excited to be able to help patients in this region with their electrophysiology needs so they can have the convenience of receiving this type of care closer to home.” Said Dr. Jeffery Curtis, Cardiologist and Administrative Director of the DeBakey Heart Clinic.

“We’re fortunate that being part of the system has given us the opportunity to have access to additional cardiologists to focus on our patients with heart rhythm problems. Any time we can partner and offer additional services for our patients it is a win-win situation. It is definitely a benefit of being part of The University of Kansas Health System”
