HaysMed Wound Care and Hyperbaric Services Celebrate 10 Year Anniversary

Hays, KS – The HaysMed Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center is celebrating 10 years of providing highly specialized wound care treatment for difficult, complicated, or atypical wounds.  This includes diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, wounds with infections, compromised skin grafts and flaps and wounds that have not healed within 30 days.

The Center opened on July 11, 2011 and had been providing services to patients from all areas of Western Kansas.  The Center also offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy as part of their treatment procedures for qualifying wounds.

The quality outcomes over the last 10 years include 2970 patients treated, 3425 total wounds treated, and 3000 total wounds healed.  This represents an 85% cure rate for wounds which is the above the national cure rate of 73.96%.

The staff of 12 at the center includes three physicians, one APRN and one PA.  Services are available both at HaysMed and as outreach at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned.

“We are excited to be celebrating this milestone at the Wound and Hyperbaric Center here in Hays.”  Said Todd Walburn, Nursing Supervisor of the Center.  “For 10 years the people of Western Kansas has benefited from the expert care they have received at our center.”

HaysMed Welcomes Two New Cardiologists

Hays, KS – HaysMed welcomes two new cardiologists to the medical staff this month.    Dr. Jason Okuhara, Interventional Cardiologist and Dr. Siva Taduru, Cardiologist joined the team at the DeBakey Heart Institute.

Dr. Okuhara completed medical school at Nova Southeastern-COM, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  He did his residency in Internal Medicine at Northside Hospital and Heart Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida.  He completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology at Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Browns Mills, New Jersey.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology.

Dr. Taduru completed medical school at Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, India.  He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Kansas City, Missouri.  A fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases was completed at the University of Kansas, Kansas City.  He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

“We are very pleased to have Dr. Okuhara and Dr. Taduru working with our team of cardiologists at Debakey.” Said Steve Albright, Director of Cardiology.  “Their expertise will expand the number of patients we can serve and also increase the catheterization procedures we will be able to offer our cardiac patients.”

HayMed Hosts Continuing Education Program A Stroke of Genius Symposium for Health Professionals

Hays, KS Hays, KS – HaysMed will present A Stroke of Genius Symposium via Zoom on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 8:00 am – 12:30 pm.   The program is jointly provided by HaysMed, part of The University of Kansas Health System and The University of Kansas Medical Center Continuing Education and Professional Development and the Area Health Education Center – West.

Due to COVID-19 the program will be held both live and virtual. The live portion will be held at the Hadley Rooms at HaysMed, 2220 Canterbury, Hays, Kansas. The live portion is limited to 50 participants. Screening, masks, and physical distancing will be required. You can also register to the virtual program and you will receive an e-mail with information about joining the meeting

Topics covered include: Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, Heart and Stroke Connection, Ischemic Stroke Treatment, and the Future of Stroke Care, Past, Present and Future of Neuro Interventional Radiology and A Day in the Life of a Stroke Rehab Patient.

Speakers for the program include: Halinder Mangat, MD, Madhu Reddy, MD, Colleen Lechtenberg, MD, Ernest (John) Madarang, MD and MD, Holly Fisher, BSN, RN, CRRN

The program is designed for Physicians, PAs, APRN’s, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Social Workers, PTs, OTs and other interested Healthcare Professionals.

All participants requesting continuing education credit must complete verification of attendance and evaluation form online.   Instructions will be distributed at the time of sign-in.

Physician: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of The University of Kansas Medical Center Office of Continuing Medical Education and HaysMed, part of The University of Kansas Health System. The KU Medical Center Office of Continuing Medical Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.   Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of the participation in this activity.

CNE: Hays Medical Center is approved as a provider of continued nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. The course offering is approved for 4.5 contact hours applicable for RN, or LPN re-licensure. Kansas State Board of Nursing Approved Provider Number: LT0021-1138.

Respiratory Therapy

The HaysMed Respiratory Care Continuing Education Evaluator on behalf of the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts has approved this program for 6.25 CRCE Hours. Providership No. 004

Paperwork will be provided to submit to KOTA and KPTA for credits.

An application has been submitted to ASRT. Approval is pending.

HaysMed Welcomes Two New Physicians

Hays, KS – HaysMed welcomes two new physicians to their medical staff.  Dr. Rajbabu Krishnamoorthy, Urologist and Dr. Artem Ryazantsev, Hospitalist began working on July 1.

Dr. Krishnamoorthy completed medical school at Stanley Medical College in India. He completed a fellowship in Urology.  He joins the HaysMed Urology clinic.  Appointments can be made at 785-628-6014.

Dr. Ryazantsev completed medical school at Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, California.  He also completed a residency in internal medicine at UCSF Fresno, Fresno California.  He will be part of the hospitalist team that takes care of in-patients while they are hospitalized at HaysMed.

DOT Physicals Now Available at HaysMed Walk In-Clinic

Hays, KS – Beginning July 12, HayMed will offer DOT Physicals at the Walk-In Clinic located at 3216 Vine, Suite 20, Big Creek Crossing in Hays.

The expanded hours at the walk-in clinic give more flexibility for those seeking a DOT physical.

“Sometimes 8 to 5 isn’t always an easy time to get DOT physicals.” Said Zena Jacobs, Physician Practice Operations Officer.  “We are very pleased to be able to offer this service to the public.”
