Dr. DeCarvalho attended medical school at the Federal University of Medicine in Sergipe, Brazil before completing orthopedic residency at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Before joining Hays Orthopedic Clinic in 2007, he completed sports medicine fellowship training at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as a team physician for Cleveland area professional sports teams, including the Cavaliers, Browns and Indians. Procedures done in his practice include: anterior cruciate ligament repairs, meniscus repair, meniscus transplantation and cartilage reconstruction and transplantation for the management of arthritis in the younger patients.
In addition to his sports medicine fellowship, he completed a hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship at the University of New Mexico which included microvascular surgery – surgery using a microscope and very small instruments to repair arteries, nerves and tendons, upper extremity arthroscopy, including labrum and rotator cuff repairs.
He has conducted research in orthopedics in Brazil and the United States, and has published extensively in medical and orthopedic books and journals.
While way from the office, Dr. DeCarvalho enjoys many fitness activities, including swimming and weight lifting, and studying foreign languages. Dr. Alex is fluent in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French and he is also currently studying German and Italian.
