Forensic Symposium Scheduled for October 7

HAYS, Kan. (September 9, 2015) – HaysMed Education and The University of Kansas Medical Center Continuing Education and Professional Development and the Area Health Education Center – West, is sponsoring a Forensic Symposium 2015 on Wednesday, October 7 at the HaysMed, Hadley Conference Rooms, 2220 Canterbury, Hays, Kansas. Registration begins at 7:30 am and the program runs from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

Bethanie Popejoy, Special Agent KBI Child Victims Unit; Karen Wilson, RN, SANE-A, Wesley Medical Center University; and Jennifer Johnson, RN, BSN, MSN, APRN, AFN-BC, CFN SANE-A, SANE-P, FACT Program Coordinator, Shawnee Mission.

Topics to be addressed include: drug endangered children; lethality risk in interpersonal violence, gunshot sounds; and testifying as an expert in intimate partner and sexual assault cases.

Secure Digital Forensic Imaging (SDFI) will remotely demonstrate the Standard and Contrast Camera Systems. The standard camera allows for detailed forensic photodocumentation with high resolution, high definition, clear images. The new contrast which allows you to take high resolution contrast images and video of what you see while in dim or dark environments with UV light

This program is designed for Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, APRNs, respiratory therapists, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, physicians, physician assistants, law enforcement, teachers, advocates, attorneys and other interested healthcare professionals. SEVEN (7.0) hours of continuing education credit are available for CNE, CME social workers, EMS, KLETC and Respiratory Therapy credit. Approval is pending for ASRT Category A credit and paperwork will be provided to submit to KOTA and KPTA for credit. FIVE (5) Law Enforcement Continuing Education Hours will be provided through KLETC.

Fee for the symposium is $70 for non HaysMed associates and $35 Critical Access Hospital employees. There is no charge for HaysMed, Pawnee Valley Community Hospital and St. Rose Health Center employees.
