HaysMed Celebrates 25 Years of Helping People Be Healthy
HAYS, Kansas (April 8, 2016)— HaysMed marked its 25th anniversary with a community celebration today. HaysMed was formed by the merger of Hadley Regional Medical Center and St. Anthony Hospital on April 8, 1991.
The celebration included remarks by President and CEO John Jeter, MD, and a commemorative walk on the fitness trail. Along the trail were key fact posters highlighting significant hospital achievements over the last 25 years. Participants also enjoyed a healthy lunch and were given a 25 year celebration tee shirt.
The formation of Hays Medical Center was made at a time when both institutions were financially solid. Administrations of both entities realized that the cost to provide quality health care in Hays and the region was substantially increasing. In order to continue the mission of both hospitals the best plan was to join together to ensure stability well into the future.
Norman Jeter, Hays attorney and Chairman of the planning task force at Hadley and Sister Mary Mollison, corporate director of institutions for the Sisters of St. Agnes, the religious order that owned St. Anthony, were instrumental in cementing the merger. The consensus of a joint planning task force was that a merger could eliminate duplication of services, decrease costs to patient and also bring new services to the area.
That merger has enjoyed 25 years of success and patients have enjoyed a level of healthcare at HaysMed that is rivaled by other institutions located in metropolitan areas. Since HaysMed’s inception many new services have been added that enhance the healthcare patients receive in Hays and Western Kansas.
