What are your fitness goals for 2017?
I am currently in the best physical shape I have ever been and I am just trying to maintain that. I think being physically fit helps me look younger than my actual age and I like to keep people guessing! But I am considering a half marathon; as I ran a full marathon 5 years ago, but did not properly train. The competitive part of me wants to try again and run a respectable time.
What is your weekly workout routine?
I try to attend HIIT and Muscle Maxx classes 3-4 times per week.
I also will run and lift weights, usually twice a week.
What keeps you motivated?
Honestly, I have to practice what I preach. As a physician, every day I see people with poor health due to poor diet and lack of exercise. I don’t want to be a hypocrite. So if I am advising people to get 150 minutes of moderate to intense exercise each week, I better be too! Also, I have made workout friends in the classes I attend and we tend to encourage each other!
Do you have a success story to share?
Over the past 9 months, I have really cleaned up my diet. I mainly drink water as opposed to the diet soda habit I used to have on a daily basis. I also eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and less desserts, which is a daily temptation at my hospital’s cafeteria. As a result, I am as trim as I have ever been and overall feel the healthiest I ever have as well!
