Notice of Voluntary Recall

By Gayla Wichman - In HaysMed News - October 20, 2017

Hays, Kansas (Oct 20, 2017) – On October 19, 2017 it was brought to our attention by US Foods that a voluntary recall has been issued by Mann Packing regarding fresh broccoli and cauliflower because they are potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.  This recall was initiated after Listeria monocytogenes was found in the production environment.  All affected distributors and retail and food service customers are being notified.  To date, no illnesses have been linked to this recall.

It was determined on October 19, 2017 that HaysMed may have served this produce in our cafeteria.  This letter is to inform visitors and associates of the serving of this product.  If you ate this product at our facility between October 6th and October 17th, 2017 and develop any symptoms of listeriosis within 2 months of exposure, please notify your physician.   Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pregnant women, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.  Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as fever, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The risk of listeriosis after exposure to L. monocytogenes is very low; exposure is common, but disease is rare. Please visit https://www.cdc.gov/listeria/index.html  or https://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm581389.htm for additional information regarding Listeria infections.
