HaysMed Robotic Surgery

HaysMed offers robotic surgery through the da Vinci® Surgical System. Currently we use da Vinci robotic surgery to assist with surgeries for select women’s conditions, gynecologic cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer and general surgeries, among others. Robotic surgery is the most advanced form of minimally invasive surgery available today. HaysMed is the only hospital in Western Kansas that offers the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System to treat general surgery health conditions.

What is robotic surgery?

The da Vinci® Surgical System at HaysMed in Hays, Kansas, is a versatile technology that can be used for many types of procedures. Your treatment is completely controlled by your surgeon through a high-tech control module that provides 3D imaging for a highly accurate view of internal organs. Your surgeon operates the da Vinci system using hand controls to move miniaturized operating instruments with extremely precise movements. There are many types of robotic surgery, and they allow our surgeons to perform more complicated procedures more efficiently than ever, through smaller incisions. Robotic surgery advantages include smaller incisions which can result in: less blood loss, less pain, reduced risk of infection, shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery and return to regular activity, and less scarring.

Robotic Hysterectomy Surgery

Robotic hysterectomies can be performed by traditional robotics, or for women who quality, Single-Site™ da Vinci® may be an option. Single-Site da Vinci surgeries are performed with just one incision through the belly button so you can get back to life faster without the usual recovery following major surgery. Single-Site™ da Vinci® robotic surgery is now available for hysterectomy and gallbladder surgeries. The surgery can be performed in about one hour with a typical hospital stay of less than 24 hours. Robotic hysterectomy surgery requires smaller incisions which can result in: less blood loss, less pain, reduced risk of infection, shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery and return to regular activity, and less scarring.

Robotic Prostate Surgery

Robotic prostate surgery with the da Vinci® Surgical System provides your HaysMed surgeon with improved visualization, dexterity, and precision compared with open or laparoscopic surgery. This allows our surgeons to perform fine, computer-controlled movements and a more precise and minimally invasive robotic prostatectomy through 1-2 cm incisions. Robotic surgery for prostate cancer requires smaller incisions which can result in: less blood loss, less pain, reduced risk of infection, shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery and return to regular activity, and less scarring.

Robotic Hernia Surgery

Hernia surgery used to require a large incision, was painful and often resulted in a slow, difficult recovery. Now, da Vinci robotic surgery provides your HaysMed surgeon with 3D imaging for excellent visibility, and robotic operating instruments for extremely precise movements through tiny incisions. Robotic hernia surgery at MaysMed may be used to treat all types of hernias and requires smaller incisions which can result in: less blood loss, less pain, reduced risk of infection, shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery and return to regular activity, and less scarring.

Robotic Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery

Bariatric/Metabolic surgery, such as gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgery, may be suggested to patients with moderate and severe obesity and other medical conditions related to obesity, especially Diabetes. Using da Vinci robotic surgery your HaysMed surgeon has a high-definition, 3D view inside your body, plus robotically enhanced precision and control. Robotic gastric bypass surgery can result in these potential benefits: a low rate of gastrointestinal leaks, a short hospital stay, a low risk of needing follow-up surgery and a low risk of the surgeon switching to open surgery.
