Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Staff Earns Certification

By Gayla Wichman - In HaysMed News, Would Healing & Hyperbaric Center News - March 9, 2021

Hays, Kansas –Kelly Miller, APRN-BC, successfully passed the national board certification exam in wound care.   The certification is awarded by the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy and designates Miller as a Wound Care Certified (WCC) provider. She joins nurses Todd Walburn, Leslie Engel, and Michelle Weigel who are also certified wound care professionals.

The certification certifies that the recipients have completed coursework in evidence-based, wound care management and treatment strategies based on national standards. She is the first provider to obtain this distinction in wound care here at HaysMed, part of The University of Kansas Health System.

Miller has spent the last two years as a Nurse Practitioner with Wound Healing and Hyperbaric, directing and managing care of the patients as well as performing procedure to increase and promote wound healing. She sees and treats patients at both HaysMed and at the Pawnee Valley Campus in Larned that suffer from chronic wounds that do not heal in a timely manner.

Miller has been with the hospital since 2013, after having obtained her Master and a Certification as an Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner. She also currently serves as the President of the Western Kansas Nursing Practitioners Alliance.
