Getting a mammo is never fun, but the entire staff here at HMC are wonderful! Thank You!
Laura and Arrica were very caring because I felt the need to hang on to something. I’m not comfortable to stand alone and they were so helpful. I appreciate the opportunity to have a mammogram yearly.

I am grateful for the excellent care, the thoroughness of my breast exam that includes the manual examination and the verbal interaction between Denise and myself. Denise is truly kind, caring and knowledgeable. She inquires into all aspects of my physical wellbeing and is willing to make referrals and schedule other diagnostic procedures. Sarah is also kind, friendly and gives a good pre-exam of my temperature, blood pressure, etc. The radiologists are kind and thorough in their procedures. Office staff are friendly and helpful. I feel cared for and valued as a patient. I am grateful for this Breast Care Center.
Excellent friendly people. Clean environment. No negative comments
Your staff is amazing! I had a breast MRI this morning. Tanya was so friendly and helpful during the procedure. Then, I saw Denise Garrison at the breast care center. She gave me the most thorough exam I had ever had, other than the same thoroughness of her prior exams. She is very supportive, a great listener, and very good at explaining what she is checking for. She gives me confidence in her expertise. I also had a sonogram of my breast. Both technicians were excellent, kind, and thorough. I was amazed that Dr. Whiteman came in also to perform a sonogram. He was very thorough, reassuring, and took his time. I felt valued and reassured by all of the great care I received.
Andrea was very sweet! I like that she had a gentle touch: A caring personality! Great job Andrea. Much appreciated, Angela.
Denise was very nice, very gentle, makes the mammo easier.
Danielle did a great job administering my mammogram. I felt very comfortable. Check in was smooth. I didn’t even get a chance to sit down before they called me back. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Great job! Thank you!
Very positive experience – as much as can be expected with a mammogram! Laura made me feel good about being there.
Queen Leah was wonderful. Supportive. Answered my questions. Definitely a benefit to this visit—my first time here.
Today was great. Everyone tells “horror” stories of a mammo! I had excellent service and Brandi was very professional, compassionate and kind! Thank you all for a great experience.

Everyone was so kind an professional before, during and after my surgery. The service was excellent and I would recommend HaysMed to family and friends. Thank you. My husband and I couldn’t have asked for a better medical team/staff than what we received here at HaysMed. From administration to dismissal, everyone has been so helpful and informative with our new baby. We have felt that every question was answered and our nurses have gone above and beyond for all three of us. Thank you HaysMed for a wonderful experience.
The past 60 hours I spent here was such a great experience. Everyone helped, listened and got what I needed. I just feel like at home, or even greater than at home. For me, I’m a first-time mom and I didn’t have a chance to go to nursing classes. Everything is new to me. Thank you. Every nurse was so helpful and walked me thru every point. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge to take care of my baby girl. Thank you so much!!!
Your staff in the Women’s Center has made our whole pregnancy a wonderful experience? All of the nurses that took care of us made what could have been a little bit scary absolutely easy. We felt fully supported and able to ask anything! So from Aubrey and Jeana in Dr. Hoskins office to Susan, Kristen, Kalin, Stephanie and LeAnn Thank you for your time and support.
You guys are always great and offer wonderful care – not sure how you can improve on already great service. Fantastic staff and experience! Everyone is very professional and caring. Everything was well organized and we were treated with respect and kept informed.

March 2013
I love how the rooms are decorated; makes me feel pampered and special. All of the staff are great but Nicole is one of the nicest and sweetest people I have ever met. I don’t mind the drive knowing she is there.
January 2013
I’d like to thank Dr. Anne O’Dea. She is real, she is thorough, she really does a good job explaining things to me. And the other person is her assistant Nicole. She will sit there and you can ask her any question you want. If it takes you a half hour, 20 minutes, even 45 minutes, she will explain everything to you. Those two are the best. I really have learned a lot from them, things I didn’t know and nobody ever told me. If it wasn’t for those two, I would not know it today. So I really have enjoyed going there and I thank God every day that they’re there.
“They are very caring and make you feel at ease. And they answered any questions that we needed to know and they made me just feel that the procedure was going to go very well.
“Everyone is so compassionate. This place should raise my blood pressure but instead it lowers it. Great Job!”
“Awesome atmosphere and they spent time answering questions!”
“Nicole gave the most thorough breast exam I have ever had. She also listened to artery in neck, which was just part of a good health exam.”

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
Hays Imaging Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.
The Hays Imaging Center breast imaging services are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and MRI Imaging Services with board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. This facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personal qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
Screen / Diagnostic Services
When you are seen at the Breast Care Center, you will have a clinical breast exam by a breast specialist. A plan for screening and follow-up will be tailored for you based on your individual risk assessment.
Ultrasound is a safe and painless test using sound waves. It is not an x-ray and does not use radiation. The technologist will apply gel to the skin and move a camera-like probe in many directions over the breast. Live, in motion, images are displayed on a high resolution monitor. Ultrasound is used to further study a specific area on a mammogram, palpable lump or guide for minimally invasive procedures. This exam can determine the difference between a fluid filled lesion (cyst) or a solid lesion.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the breast is a special breast imaging technique which utilizes intravenous contrast while obtaining multiple cross-sectional images of your breasts, muscle and chest wall. Image processing and CAD (Computer Aided Detection) system are used for review and interpretation by a board certified radiologist. MRI is highly sensitive for evaluating abnormalities seen on ultrasound or mammography but can also detect lesions that are not-palpable or not seen on mammography. It is especially helpful in women with dense breast tissue or implants which may limit other imaging options. Although used for the detection of breast cancer, it can also be beneficial in evaluating treatment effectiveness or disease in the unaffected breast or breast implant integrity. Optimal imaging requires specific patient scheduling with 7-10 days of their menstrual cycle, cessation of hormone replacement therapy for 30 days and careful safety screening.
This is a minimally invasive procedure using digital x-ray to precisely locate a lesion. We utilize the most state of the art vacuum assisted core biopsy device to remove multiple samples of breast tissue for analysis. This procedure requires the use of local numbing medication injected into the breast (anesthetic) so there is little or no discomfort. *Patient is seated for the procedure*
This is a minimally invasive procedure that uses real-time ultrasound imaging to precisely locate a lesion. We utilize the most state of the art vacuum assisted core biopsy device to remove multiple breast tissue for analysis. This procedure is done using local numbing medication and does not require sutures and caused little or no discomfort.
DEXA (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) is used to determine your risk for bone fractures. It uses a small amount of radiation to look at the density of your bones and mineral content. Scans are safe, easy and determine if you are at risk for osteoporosis. Knowing if you have osteoporosis is important as there are treatment options available to minimize the effects of this process.
The image of a breast is displayed on a high resolution monitor with advanced software to enhance and magnify for optimal evaluation and interpretation by our board certified radiologist. Advances include reduction in time of compression and a lower average radiation dose. Quality images are viewed quickly to assure the evaluation is complete prior to the patient leaving the room. Digital Mammography is offered at Hays Med.
What is breast tomosynthesis?
Breast tomosynthesis converts digital breast images into a stack of very thin layers or “slices” – building what is essentially a “3-dimensional mammogram.”
Now the radiologist can see breast tissue detail in a way never before possible. Instead of viewing all the complexities of your breast tissue in a flat image, the doctor can examine the tissue a millimeter at a time. Fine details are more clearly visible, no longer hidden by the tissue above and below.
Should you consider 3D mammography?
*Do you have dense breasts?
*Do you have a history of call backs with your mammograms?
*Do you have a family history of call backs with your mammograms?
*Do you have a history of breast abnormalities or cancer?
What to expect?
A tomosynthesis exam is very similar to a traditional mammogram. The exam time is approximately the same as a digital mammogram and delivers a similar radiation dose.
Just as with your digital mammogram, our breast will be compressed while the x-ray arm makes a quick arc over the breast taking a series of images at a number of angles. 2D and 3D images are obtained simultaneously. With tomosynthesis, additional compression and adjustment of the breast is not required.
Screening for Breast Cancer
Doctors and scientists agree that early detection is the best defense against breast cancer. If we find cancer in its earliest stages, the chances of surviving it are good. Until now, the best way to do that has been with digital mammography.
While digital mammography is still one of the most advanced technologies available today, it is only a two dimensional picture of the breast. Since the breast is composed of pockets of dense tissue surrounded by fat, when x-rayed, it creates an image that has overlapping tissue making it difficult to see fine “spots”, called microcalcifications, and other subtle signs of early cancer.
In some cases, the radiologist may ask you to come back for a follow-up examination such as a diagnostic mammogram to rule out any suspicious areas.
An additional screening tool
Breast tomosynthesis is a new technology in the fight against breast cancer. Breast tomosynthesis is used in conjunction with traditional digital mammography as part of your annual screening mammogram to capture more breast images. Using breast tomosynthesis and digital mammography together for screening has been proven to reduce “call-backs”.
Breast tomosynthesis allows doctors to examine breast tissue one layer at a time. This exciting new technology is FDA approved.
Advantages
*30% increase in breast cancer detection
*3D mammography may provide a lower chance you will have to come back for additional mammographic imaging.
The new technology combines 2D and 3D mammography. Most insurance companies cover the 2D mammography portion of the exam.
