Emergency Department Distress System Funded

May 1, 2025/in HaysMed News, News/by Leanna Swart

Recent studies and national events have shown there is an increasing prevalence of violence towards healthcare workers. Emergency Department nurses are particularly vulnerable to workplace violence with up 70% reporting having experienced physical and/or verbal assault. HaysMed is no exception to this disturbing trend.

Guests at the HaysMed Foundation Benefit Gala funded the purchase of a nurse distress system that will be installed in the Emergency Department. Thanks to generous $20,000 matching gift offers from Joe and Linda Glassman/Glassman Corp. and the Hadley Foundation, $65,000 was raised to fund this important project. The new system will allow emergency department nurses to communicate directly with security and the rest of the department via a device attached to their ID-badge when they need emergency assistance while providing patient care.

“Not only will this system help protect our staff, but it will also allow us to continue providing the highest quality emergency care that our community deserves. We appreciate the support of our community in helping raise the necessary funds for the installation of this system in our Emergency Department,” said Dr. Aaron Pfeifer, HaysMed Emergency Physician.
