HaysMed Invests in Advanced Patient Bed Technology to Enhance Safety, Comfort, and Care
HaysMed is continuing its commitment to exceptional patient care with a significant investment in 83 new Hillrom Centrella® Smart+ Beds, which are now being deployed throughout the hospital. The 83 beds are being installed in Acute Care, Surgical, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and Medical Progressive Care Unit (MPCU) patient rooms.
A Focus on Patient Safety
Designed with patient safety at the forefront, the bed platform includes advanced features intended to help reduce falls, prevent pressure injuries, and support clinical best practices. Among the most significant enhancements is advanced alarm technology that can alert caregivers when a patient at risk for falls may be attempting to leave the bed unassisted.
In addition, the beds include an integrated surface designed to help reduce moisture and humidity on the skin through a specialized airflow system. This technology supports skin integrity and helps reduce the risk of pressure-related injuries during a patient’s hospital stay.
Future enhancements will also allow the beds to integrate with Meditech, HaysMed’s electronic medical record system, creating additional opportunities to streamline documentation and provide caregivers with valuable patient information at the bedside.
HaysMed nursing staff receive hands-on training from a Hillrom representative on the advanced safety and patient care features of the new beds.

Beyond safety enhancements, the Centrella beds are designed to improve patient comfort while making it easier for caregivers to deliver high-quality care. Their advanced therapeutic surfaces promote patient wellness during recovery, while ergonomic features help clinical staff provide care more efficiently and effectively.

Investing in the Future of Healthcare
Through continual investments in equipment, facilities, and clinical innovation, HaysMed remains focused on delivering the highest level of care while supporting the physicians, nurses, and caregivers who serve the region every day. As part of this transition, HaysMed is also donating 10 of the retired patient beds to the Fort Hays State University Department of Nursing. The donation will provide nursing students with additional hands-on learning opportunities using clinical equipment as they prepare for careers in healthcare.
