October is National Physical Therapy Month
HaysMed Celebrates October – National Physical Therapy Month
Physical therapists are movement experts who treat people of all ages and abilities, helping them improve and maintain function and quality of life. They diagnose and treat existing health conditions, but they also provide patient education and customize individual plans of care to include preventative treatments that can help people avoid many health problems before they occur.
Physical therapists (PTs) combine extensive education, clinical experience, and the latest research to create treatment plans tailored to a person’s specific needs and goals. Physical therapist assistants (PTAs) are educated and licensed clinicians who work under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist.
Physical therapists create individual treatment plans to match each person’s goals, helping people improve their fitness and function, avoid surgery, reduce the use of opioids and other drugs, and partner in their own care.
Physical therapists treat pain through movement, hands-on care, and patient education and by increasing physical activity you can also reduce your risk of other chronic diseases. Pain is personal, but treating pain takes teamwork.
You can see a physical therapist almost anywhere, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, private practices, people’s homes, schools, sports and fitness facilities, work settings, and nursing homes. You do not need a physician’s referral to make an appointment with a physical therapist for an evaluation.
The outpatient rehab department at the Center for Health Improvement has a staff of 6 physical therapists and 5 physical therapist assistants to meet all client needs. Specialized services include ASTYM, dry needling, fascial counterstrain, lymphedema management, balance training, pelvic floor rehab for both men and women, and return to work and sport. Please contact us at (785)623-5691 or visit our website if you would like to find out more about how outpatient physical therapy can help you.
