HaysMed Nurse Recognized with Daisy Award

January 30, 2023/in All, News/by Darrin Widick

Regan Krause, RN, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, was recently recognized as a DAISY Nurse Award winner at HaysMed. The award is presented to a nurse in deep appreciation of all that they do, who they are, and the incredible meaningful difference that they have made in the lives of so many people. Krause was nominated by a patient’s family member.

Krause was selected from a group of blinded nominations voted on by the HaysMed Practice Committee. The Practice Committee consists of nursing staff, supervisors, and directors from HaysMed. Nominations are received from patients and family members, physicians, volunteers, and associates for nurses in inpatient, outpatient, and clinic settings.

HaysMed is proud to honor its outstanding nurses with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses every quarter. This is an international recognition program that celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide to patients and families every day.

“It is not always in what we say, it is in what we do that we can make a difference. Regan made a difference in this family’s life,” said Sandy Gottschalk, Director of Professional Development at HaysMed. “Extraordinary nurses have a caring passion that they are proud of, and they continue to strive for excellence in patient care.”

HaysMed Honors Nurses Completing the RN Residency Program

January 18, 2023/in All, News, Nursing News/by Darrin Widick

HAYS, Kansas – Three registered nurses at HaysMed were honored recently at a recognition ceremony and luncheon. They completed the year-long RN Residency Program offered at HaysMed.

The program began a year ago with training focused on clinical experience, one on one mentorship with their preceptor, high-fidelity simulations and on the job training. Additionally, nurses received training from professionals in several departments, such as radiology, pharmacy, cardiac care, peri-op and others.

The RN Residency class from Hays included Brooke Pfannenstiel, RN, Corey Wertz, RN and Katelyn Zimmerman, RN.

“It is so important for new nursing graduates to have a group of peers and mentors who assist them in enhancing their skills and becoming comfortable with the challenges of practice,” said Jennifer Peirano, RN Residency Coordinator. “Our program is evidence based, with positive clinical outcomes that will help not only the participating nurses, but also our patients.”

Currently there are 8 nurses scheduled in the next program which begins in February. The program is open to newly graduated RNs and RNs that have less than one year of acute care experience.

HaysMed Nurse Receives Critical Care Certification

January 8, 2023/in All, News/by Chris Morris

Hays, KS – Dawson Sandoval, a critical care nurse in HaysMed’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), recently received certification as a Critical Care Registered Nurses (CCRN) from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).

CCRN certification is awarded to critical care nurses who have completed a strenuous exam process assessing their knowledge base and who also meet the eligibility requirements for hours of clinical practice in care of acutely and/or critically ill patients.

“Healthcare is becoming more complex,” said Sandy Gottschalk, Director of Professional Development at HaysMed. “It has become increasingly vital to assure our patients that healthcare professionals are highly skilled and competent. Receiving this certification validates a nurse’s mastery of skills, knowledge and abilities. Everyone in the healthcare equation – patients and families, employers and nurses – all benefit from CCRN certification as it is a mark of excellence.”
