HaysMed Honors January11 – National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

HaysMed has announced that, as of January 2, 2025, the Northwest Kansas Surgery Center, located at 1904 E. 29th St., Hays, KS, officially became part of HaysMed. This step reflects the hospital’s mission to provide top-quality, compassionate care to the residents of Hays and western Kansas.
This transition, which developed over the course of the past several years, will build on the Surgery Center’s strong foundation of serving the local community. By integrating services, the hospital aims to address the region’s healthcare needs by offering an additional location to help reduce the burden of travel for patients. By putting patients first in every decision, HaysMed will make healthcare more accessible, convenient, and personal for everyone served.
For current Northwest Kansas Surgery Center patients, medical records will be securely transferred to Underground Vault & Storage (UV&S) in Hutchinson, KS, later this month. Patients who need access to their records can contact UV&S directly at (620) 663-5434.
In the coming months, HaysMed will begin renovating the Surgery Center building to serve the needs of its patients and the community. These patient-focused enhancements are designed to support the types of services HaysMed will offer at the Surgery Center, while maintaining exceptional standards of care.
HaysMed will provide regular updates on these renovations and anticipates unveiling a facility that will remain a cornerstone of healthcare in western Kansas. This collaboration highlights HaysMed’s commitment to building a healthier and stronger community.
HaysMed is proud to announce that Danielle VonFeldt, APRN, of HaysMed Urology, has successfully passed her certification Board for Urologic Nurses and Associates (CBUNA).
A native of Norton, Kansas, Danielle began her journey with HaysMed in 2010 as a health unit coordinator (HUC). Her dedication to healthcare and professional growth led her to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in May 2012, followed by her transition to a registered nurse (RN) in 2014. Throughout her career, Danielle gained extensive experience in inpatient and clinic care, as well as the operating room.
Eager to advance her expertise, Danielle pursued higher education, earning her Master of Science in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Walden University in Minneapolis, MN, in July 2022. With her recent certification, Danielle has achieved the distinction of being one of only two Urology Certified Nurse Practitioners in Kansas and one of just 230 nationwide—a testament to her commitment to excellence in her field.
Reflecting on her journey, Danielle shared, “I am incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement I’ve received from HaysMed throughout my career. Their commitment to fostering professional growth has been instrumental in helping me achieve this milestone. From my early days as a registered nurse to now becoming a certified urology nurse practitioner, HaysMed has always provided me with the resources and opportunities to advance my skills and deliver the best possible care to our patients. I’m excited to bring this specialized knowledge to our community and contribute to the exceptional work we do here at HaysMed.”
Currently serving with HaysMed Western Kansas Urological Associates, Danielle delivers outstanding care across the region, contributing to advancements in urology and enhancing patient outcomes.
“Danielle’s certification showcases her passion and dedication to our patients,” said Eddie Herrman, HaysMed CEO. “We are proud to have her on our HaysMed team and commend her commitment to advancing her education. Her expertise will make a meaningful impact on our community in Western Kansas.”
Danielle and her husband, Jared, both share a deep commitment to healthcare. Originally from western Kansas, Jared began his career at HaysMed in 2015 as a phlebotomist, later becoming an RN in 2019. He is currently pursuing an advanced degree as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at KU Medical Center, with graduation expected in 2027. Together, they are raising two daughters and are proud to contribute to the health and well-being of their community.

Rose vial signed by hospital to be included on OneLegacy Donate Life float
For 22 years, the OneLegacy Donate Life Rose Parade® float has inspired people across the country to save and enhance lives with the powerful message of organ, eye and tissue donation. The 2025 Rose Parade® theme, “Best Day Ever,” celebrates life’s best moments – those unexpected times that bring a smile, warm our hearts and fill us with joy. While for organ donor families, losing a loved one represents one of the most difficult moments of their lives, organ, eye and tissue donation brings a ray of hope to see their loved ones live on in others. For transplant recipients, organ donation gives them bittersweet feelings of happiness for receiving the gift of life, gratitude to their donor and grief for the donor family’s loss.
HaysMed is proud to partner with Midwest Transplant Network in dedicating a rose vial that will be placed on the OneLegacy Donate Life Rose Parade® float, “Let Your Life Soar.” The float features a vibrant scene inspired by the beloved Japanese celebration of Children’s Day. Colorful koi nobori (flying fish flags), or windsocks shaped like fish, fly overhead. Streamers bear a family crest, followed by the koi nobori in a sequence representing father, mother and children in order of birth. The scales of the fish are memorial floral portraits – floragraphs – of organ donor heroes who gave the gift of life. The windsocks soar over a garden of flowering trees, stone lanterns and a beautiful bridge.
All Rose Parade® floats must be covered with flowers or other natural materials, such as leaves, seeds or bark. The OneLegacy Donate Life Rose Parade® float features numerous floragraphs, which replicate photographs but are made entirely of organic materials, remembering donor heroes from across the country.
Donor Hero Floragraph Honoree
OneLegacy Donate Life Rose Parade® float co-sponsor Midwest Transplant Network’s floragraph on the 2025 float will honor organ donor Joe Hecht of Sturgeon, Missouri.
Joe was 38, a son, husband and father who died after a senseless act of gun violence in July 2020. He donated his kidneys at MU Health Care in Columbia, Mo., saving the lives of two people. Growing up, his mother, Sheila Hecht, served in the Navy. They lived in Florida and Washington, experiencing the world along the way. Baseball, working on cars and “California Love” by Tupac were his vibe. He enjoyed a life of adventure with his wife, Melissa, taking trips to the Amazon rainforest and Machu Picchu in Peru. Joe loved being outside with their young daughters, Elena and Isabelle.
“We are proud of Joe’s legacy as an organ donor. We always talk about daddy. He’s a hero. We are thankful to be invited to represent Joe at the Rose Parade®. It’ll be a wonderful memory for our family,” said Melissa Hecht.
The Hechts will travel to Pasadena, Calif., for parade events hosted by OneLegacy, the organ procurement organization of southern California.
Rose Vial Dedications
The OneLegacy Donate Life Rose Parade® float includes individual roses encased in vials with unique messages from some of Midwest Transplant Network’s hospital and community partners.
