Moments That Matter: Janelle Predmore Patient Testimonial
/in HaysMed News, News/by Leanna SwartOvercoming health challenges is never easy, but expert medical care and a supportive environment can make a significant difference. Ms. Janelle Predmore experienced this firsthand when she began her rehabilitation at HaysMed after suffering a stroke in early January 2024. Admitted to the Acute Rehabilitation Unit, her journey highlights the high-quality care and dedication of the HaysMed team, as well as her own strength and determination in recovery.
In early January 2024, Ms. Janelle Predmore faced a life-altering challenge when she suffered a stroke. Admitted to the Acute Rehabilitation Unit at Hays Medical Center (HaysMed), she embarked on a rigorous recovery journey. Over the course of nearly a month, Ms. Predmore demonstrated remarkable resilience and made substantial progress, thanks to the dedicated care and tailored rehabilitation programs provided by HaysMed.
Ms. Predmore and her husband reside in Glen Elder, KS and were grateful to have inpatient rehab services close to home. Before the stroke, Ms. Predmore was independent and enjoyed spending time with her animals as well as being outdoors. Her goal was to go home with her husband so that they could continue to enjoy each other’s company.
During her hospitalization, she began working with nurses, physicians, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Her understanding of conversation and ability to communicate were limited by the stroke. She was unable to transfer out of her bed without help and could only walk two feet at a time. Ms. Predmore required help with bathing and dressing as she had no use of her right arm.
Over the next 15 days at the HaysMed inpatient rehab unit, she was extremely motivated and worked hard so she could go home. At times, she struggled to stand, had moments of extreme fatigue, and faced the frustration of “saying the wrong word” when trying to communicate her needs.
When she was ready to discharge home, she was able to transfer from sitting in a chair to standing with just someone to steady her and she was able to walk almost 400 feet as well as climb 12 stairs. She was able to perform her basic self-care with a little help from her husband who was able to meet with occupational therapy for training. With speech therapy, she was able to tell stories and put multiple sentences together with rare instances of word finding difficulty. Her husband credits the HaysMed rehab team for her incredible recovery and expressed their gratitude countless times throughout their visit.

Introducing Convenient Billing Notifications for HaysMed Patients
/in HaysMed News, News/by Leanna SwartAt HaysMed, we’re dedicated to continually improving your patient experience through enhanced communication and service options. We are pleased to introduce a new billing notification system, launching this month, designed to streamline how you receive and manage your billing information.
This system features an innovative call service that automatically contacts patients to notify them of new bills and provides essential payment details. Our goal is to offer timely, convenient access to your billing information, ensuring you’re always up to date.
Recognizing our patients’ diverse preferences, we’ve also expanded the methods through which you can receive these statement notifications. Beyond the traditional paper notices, you now have the option to get notifications via email or text messages. This digital approach not only speeds up the process but is also eco-friendly and enhances accessibility. You can update your preferences for receiving these notifications through your online payment webpage- haysmed.com/payment .
This change allows you the flexibility to choose your preferred notification method, ensuring you receive your billing information in the way that works best for you. Initially, you will receive an email and text notification; if unopened after a few days, we will send a paper version. Upon receiving the first email, you will also have the option to opt out of digital communications if desired.
Please note that final statements are only issued through postal mail.
We believe these new features will significantly enhance your interaction with HaysMed, making it easier to manage your billing needs. Thank you for trusting HaysMed with your healthcare and stay tuned for further updates.

HaysMed to Assume Operations of Lab Services
/in HaysMed News, News/by Leanna SwartHaysMed has announced an important update regarding its laboratory services. Effective March 10, 2025, HaysMed will begin managing in-house laboratory services and testing previously handled by Quest Lab Diagnostics.
Outpatient lab services will continue to be available at the HaysMed Outpatient Lab Draw Station located at HaysMed Family Medicine, 2509 Canterbury Drive, ensuring no changes to the location or services patients are accustomed to.
As part of this transition, billing statements for most clinical lab work will come directly from HaysMed. Patients are encouraged to take advantage of our new online bill payment options, specifically designed to make the billing experience simpler and more convenient.
“This transition is designed to ensure continuity in patient services while bringing billing and operations in-house,” said Eddie Herrman, CEO of HaysMed. “Our lab team will continue providing the same essential diagnostic services, whether for routine blood work, pre-surgical evaluations for procedures such as a knee replacement, or urgent assessments and testing during emergency trauma care.”
The goal of transitioning laboratory services internally is to enhance continuity of care and improve efficiencies within the hospital. The transition process is already underway, with the current lab team actively involved to ensure a smooth changeover. The laboratory serves more than 100 patients daily, playing a critical role in supporting HaysMed’s healthcare services. HaysMed is committed to maintaining uninterrupted laboratory operations throughout this transition.
For questions regarding billing statements, patients can call (785) 623-5100 or visit haysmed.com/online-bill-pay/. HaysMed appreciates the continued trust and partnership of the community and the western Kansas region during this transition.
