HaysMed to Host Healing Kids’ Heart Retreat on March 28
HaysMed is pleased to announce the upcoming Healing Kids’ Heart Retreat, a special one-day program designed to support children who are coping with the loss of a loved one. The retreat will take place Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bob & Pat Schmidt Community Center, 2510 Canterbury Drive in Hays.
The Healing Kids’ Heart Retreat offers a safe, caring, and confidential space where children can learn healthy ways to navigate grief. Guided by trained volunteers, participants will engage in activities that help them understand that grief looks different for everyone, and that remembering and honoring someone who has died can be healing and meaningful.
“HaysMed is committed to caring for the whole person, and that includes supporting families and children through difficult emotional experiences,” said Sarah Dreiling, HaysMed Director of Clinical Care, in announcing the retreat. “Programs like the Healing Kids’ Heart Retreat help ensure that no child has to navigate grief alone.”
A Day Designed for Comfort and Connection
Throughout the retreat, children will take part in hands-on projects and guided conversations created specifically for their developmental and emotional needs. Activities include:
- Creating special keepsakes that celebrate and honor the memory of their loved one
- Sharing experiences with peers who are also coping with loss
Each child will be paired with a trained adult buddy who will provide support, companionship, and encouragement throughout the day.
Lunch will be provided for all participants.
Registration Details
There is no cost to attend the Healing Kids’ Heart Retreat, but registration is required and limited to the first 20 children. Forms must be submitted no later than March 1, 2026.
