Joe Kantz Awarded HaysMed BEE Award for Exceptional Patient-Centered Care
HaysMed is proud to recognize Joseph “Joe” Kantz, physical therapist, as the latest recipient of the BEE (Being Excellent Every Day) Award, honoring outstanding non‑nursing team members who play a vital role in supporting exceptional patient care.
Joe works as an in-patient physical therapist, working with hospitalized patients to restore mobility, build strength, and safely transition them back to their daily lives. His daily responsibilities include guiding patients through therapeutic exercises, assisting with walking and balance training, and helping individuals navigate essential activities such as getting in and out of bed and climbing stairs. He collaborates closely with physicians, nurses, and care teams to create personalized treatment plans, while also offering encouragement, education, and reassurance to patients and their families throughout the recovery process.
Theresa Roe, Director of Rehabilitation Services shares, “Joe’s ability to connect with patients and personalize their care truly sets him apart. His attentiveness and clinical expertise embody the spirit of the BEE Award, and we are proud to recognize his outstanding contributions.”
Take a moment to read the heartfelt nomination submitted by a patient’s family member:
“I would like to recognize Joe from Physical Therapy for the exceptional care he provided to my dad, during his recovery following a pacemaker procedure.
Joe has a remarkable ability to meet patients exactly where they are. Joe Instinctively knew when to gently push my dad to build strength and confidence, and when to pause and offer reassurance. That balance made all the difference during a time when my dad was understandably uncertain about safely walking and navigating.
What stood out most was Joe’s patience and attentiveness to the small but meaningful details. My dad was hesitant about wearing the hospital provided socks while walking, and rather than dismissing his concern, Joe took the time to listen and support him. Joe helped my dad get into his own shoes, which may seem like a small act, but it gave my dad a sense of comfort.
Joe also made sure my dad was truly prepared to go home safely. Joe worked with him on navigating stairs, ensuring he had the strength and confidence needed for everyday life outside the hospital. That level of care provided our family with tremendous peace of mind as my dad lives independently and 5 hours from my home in Nebraska.
Joe’s professionalism, compassion, and ability to connect on a human level exemplify the very best of patience-centered care. We are incredibly grateful for the role Joe played in my 80-year-old dad’s stay at HaysMed.”
Just as a DAISY cannot thrive without a BEE, our nurses depend on the collaboration and support of team members like Joe. Patients, families, and Associates are encouraged to nominate non‑nursing team members who demonstrate outstanding dedication and compassion. BEE Award recipients receive a commemorative pin, a certificate of excellence, and a special recognition package.
