Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery offers hope to women who are unhappy with the size, shape, or symmetry of their breasts. Today’s breast augmentation patients enjoy a choice of implant materials, shapes, and surgical options for a more individualized, realistic look. The staff at HaysMed are committed to helping patients achieve their individual aesthetic goals in comfort and safety, using the most advanced techniques available.

Today, women who are interested in breast augmentation are able to choose between silicone or saline implants. Both are FDA-approved for safety, and each has significant advantages. Our staff assist each patient in determining which type of implant is appropriate for their needs.

Patients should expect soreness for some time after surgery, and will not be able to perform strenuous physical activities for about a month. Scars from breast augmentation surgery take several months to fade. However, most patients are able to return to work and other activities after about two weeks.

The staff are committed to helping breast augmentation patients make the right choices when preparing to undergo surgery. To schedule a breast augmentation consultation, contact HaysMed Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery today.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

Breast lift surgery is a procedure that allows individuals who are dissatisfied with uncomfortably large or drooping breasts the opportunity to achieve a more attractive and comfortable breast size and shape. The breast lift procedure is designed to lift and reposition breasts that have drooped or stretched over time. Individuals whose breasts have also lost volume over time may choose to pair a breast lift with a breast augmentation to restore size, shape, and firmness to their breasts. Patients who undergo a breast lift enjoy the improved self-confidence that accompanies a more youthful and attractive figure.

Making a complete recovery from breast lift surgery takes four to six weeks, during which time patients may experience soreness and swelling. Patients should avoid heavy lifting and other strenuous tasks. Most patients are able to return to work after about two weeks.

Breast Reduction

Some women suffer from general discomfort, back pain, self-consciousness, and other problems as a result of oversized breasts. Breast reduction surgery allows these women to live more comfortably, enabling them to wear a wider variety of clothes and avoid the pain often associated with large, heavy breasts. Both breast reduction surgery to treat women with overly large breasts, and also performs breast reduction surgery for men with gynecomastia is available.

Breast reduction patients can expect a recovery period of four to six weeks following surgery. Your breasts may be sore and tender for up to six weeks following surgery. Swelling for about two weeks is also common. In light of this, they should be treated gently. Some patients experience numbness and desensitization in the breast for months, and it is occasionally permanent. Surgical scars will fade over time, but may never completely disappear.

Breast Reconstruction

After a mastectomy some women choose to have their breasts reconstructed. The breast reconstruction process involves multiple procedures that may include tissue expander based reconstruction, TRAM flap (trans rectus abdominus muscle) reconstruction, nipple reconstruction, and nipple areola tattooing. Women may also choose to have surgery on the opposite, uninvolved breast, in order to make them match. This can include breast reduction, breast lift or breast augmentation. It is possible to have immediate reconstruction, which is performed at the time of mastectomy or delayed reconstruction which is performed months to years later. The reconstruction surgery is performed in the operating room under general anesthesia.

Recovery time will vary depending on the type of surgery you choose. Patients can expect feelings of pressure, tightness and discomfort. Most patients resume normal daily activities between 2-3weeks after surgery.

Our staff will help decide whether your health and medical conditions make you an appropriate candidate for breast reconstruction and will assist in further discussing your personal goals for breast reconstruction. To schedule an appointment, contact HaysMed Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery today.

Tissue Expander Based Reconstruction

Following a mastectomy, a tissue expander is placed under the chest tissue. A tissue expander is a balloon-like device, make from silicone rubber that is slowly filled over time with saline fluid. This process will expand and stretch the tissue, creating a pocket for a breast implant. The tissue expansion process typically lasts 3-6 months. During this process the patient will come into the office to have the saline fluid injected. Most patients will experience numbness following a mastectomy, and therefore not experience much pain from this simple procedure.

After expansion is complete, the tissue expander is removed and the permanent breast implant is placed. The breast implant is a silicone shell filled with silicone gel or saline. All of the permanent breast implants are FDA approved.

The final stage of this reconstruction involves nipple reconstruction and/or nipple areola tattoo. Nipple reconstruction involves using your own skin and tissue to create a nipple. Those who choose to not go through this procedure can have 3-D tattooing of the nipple and areola, performed in the office.

TRAM Flap Based Reconstruction

TRAM flap reconstruction is a procedure that involves moving a combination of skin, fat, and muscle from your stomach to your chest, to make a breast.
