Meet Dr. Oluwaseun Akinbo
Dr. Akinbo graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA from the University of South Florida where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences. He was recognized as a King O’Neal scholar, and won numerous other awards and scholarships as an undergraduate. He then obtained his medical degree from Columbia University. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency at the historic Howard University where he served as the administrative chief resident during his final year of residency; he also served on the House-staff executive council and the Orthopaedic education committee at Howard University Hospital. He completed fellowship training in hip and knee replacement surgery at the world-renowned New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Akinbo has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals, serves as a peer reviewer for multiple Orthopedic surgery journals. Dr. Akinbo plans to serve his patients as an orthopedic surgeon skilled in caring for his patients in the most intelligent, efficient, and cost effective manner.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Meet Dr. Max Decarvalho
Dr. Max De Carvalho earned his medical degree from the Federal University of Sergipe, Brazil before completing orthopedic residency at National Institute of Trauma and Orthopedics in Rio de Janeiro. His extensive training in spine surgery began with a clinical fellowship in spine surgey at Klinikum Karlsbad Langensteinbach in Germany and a minimally invasive spine surgery fellowship in South Korea.
He then completed advance fellowship training in the following:
• Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship at New Mexico University in Albuquerque, NM
• Spine Surgery Fellowship at the Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, MN
• Pediatric Orthopedic Fellowship at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, OH
Dr De Carvalho has conducted research in Brazil and United States, and has published extensively in orthopedic books and journals.
Away from the office, Dr De Carvalho enjoys many physical activities including, tennis and swimming and studying foreign languages. Dr Max is fluent in English, Portuguese, German and Spanish.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
Wally Walstrom, DO

Meet Dr. Wally Walstrom
Dr. Wally Walstrom was born and raised in Marysville, KS. After graduating high school he ran track at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and Kansas State University. He graduated with highest honors from Kansas State University, studying Kinesiology and Human Nutrition. He then obtained a master’s degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences where his focus was on body composition and performance in track and field athletes, with an emphasis on eating disorders. He attended osteopathic medical school in Kansas City, MO and completed a dual allopathic/osteopathic residency in Wichita, KS at Via Christi. He then completed advanced fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine in Wichita, KS and covered all sports at Wichita State University, Newman University and professional hockey, indoor football, and baseball.
He relocated to Hays in 2016 where he is practicing family medicine, primary care sports medicine, and taking care of the athletes at Fort Hays State University.
In his free time he likes to pole vault, raft, kayak, camp, hike, climb, coach, travel, compete in triathlons, and go to sporting events. He has enjoyed covering sporting events and athletes from the College World Series, the Ironman World Championships, Olympians, professional athletes and many more.
Dr Walstrom’s special interests include nutrition, weight loss, sports medicine, concussion management, integrative medicine, overuse injuries, overtraining, eating disorders, osteopathic manipulative medicine, return to play guidelines for athletes, pre-participation physical exam, diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, sports psychology, exercise prescription, injury prevention, and working with athletes of all ages, including weekend warriors, high school athletes, youth athletes, professional athletes and anyone in-between.
Special procedures that Dr. Walstrom is trained in: • Injections for OA including Viscosupplementation and steroid injections using ultrasound guidance (Landmark or ‘blind” injections are not guaranteed to go where you want them to go, but ultrasound guidance allows you to know exactly where you are injecting) • Dry needling • Percutaneous needle tenotomy • PRP/whole blood injections • Compartment pressure testing for acute and chronic compartment syndrome • Difficult injections[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Meet Jared Reed, PA-C
Jared Reed was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Brigham Young University-Idaho and graduated in biology with a chemistry minor. He completed his physician assistant training at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana.
Jared joined HaysMed Orthopedic Institute in October 2012. He and his wife, Ashley, reside in Hays with their two sons and enjoy the small town feel and friendly people. When not at work, he enjoys the outdoors and is an avid fly fisherman. He and his family also like camping in the mountains and spending time with extended family.
